Whiskey Reviews

Batch 1 of Smooth Ambler Founders’ Cask Strength Bourbon

🩺Vitals: 123.6 Proof🔥 6 Years Aged

🤿 Let's Dive In: Mashed, distilled, aged & bottled in small batches in the mountains of West Virginia

🥃 Nose of vanilla, citrus and spice. Flavors of caramel, fruit and spice with a long finish of chocolate, tobacco, dark fruit and oak.

👨🏻‍⚖️ Verdict: The wheated mash bill and farm to table ingredients are evident in this Batch 1 bourbon release. The flavors are certainly distinct from other mainstream wheated bourbons. Would like to do a taste comparison against Larceny Barrel Proof and Maker’s Cask Strength to see how it measures up. Regardless, definitely worth the purchase if you can find it 😋

Smooth Ambler Old Scout Port Cask Finish Rye Whiskey

🩺Vitals: 103 Proof, NCF, Batch 4, MGP Sourced

🤿Let’s Dive In: Nice viscosity and amber color. Sweet fruit and spice on the nose. Flavors of dark fruit, baking spice, tobacco and oak. Long pleasant finish of oak and sweetness from the port casks.

🧑🏽‍⚖️Verdict: Port and Rye whiskey seem to be a good finishing fit. The port isn’t overwhelming and mellow some of the spicy flavors that come from rye. Going to work through this bottle over the next few days and follow up with additional notes.
